What the Heck is a BTS?

K-Pop. Who the heck actually listens to it? I mean, it's not in English, and it's not like Despacito topped the charts for 16 weeks, nearly breaking records, and happened to be mostly in Spanish.
I'll be honest. I myself did not discover K-Pop until around 6 months ago, thanks to a friend of mine, Theresa. Clearly, she must have bad taste in music, since she listens to songs that aren't in English.
That's the thing with K-Pop, right? It's not in English, and therefore cannot possibly be of any quality. There are obviously not tons of fans who spend painstaking hours translating and creating subtitles for millions of videos.
I have a particular K-Pop group I want to focus on today though. BTS.
Now, what is BTS? BTS is seven guys, one of whom actually speaks English, hallelujah. They've been breaking a lot of records lately, and the world is utterly perplexed as to why. In May they won the Billboard Music Award for Top Social Artist, beating out artists like Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and more. They were the first K-Pop group ever to achieve this feat. How though, with this huge, obviously insurmountable language barrier?
Their latest accomplishment involves their newest album though, Love Yourself: Her. Firstly, we have to address the reality that they're obviously sending negative messages to their fans. I mean, what kind of society do we live in that we actually encourage people to embrace their own flaws and have any level of self-confidence?
Looking past that, however, it must be acknowledged that the album is experiencing impressive success. It's topping the iTunes charts and streaming is astounding, not to mention the fact that the music video is the 11th most viewed YouTube video within its first 24 hours, and it ranks as number 6 on the music video charts. Why though?
It makes absolutely no sense. Along with reaching out to international fans and making great attempts to learn more English with help from the fluent member, Kim Namjoon (Rap Monster), they've been making other questionable decisions as well. They seem to have focused their energy on reaching out and connecting with their fans, and I can't imagine why.
We all know that celebrities are supposed to be aloof and never talk to anyone because we're all beneath them. That's just a common, obvious fact of life. So how could BTS be so stupid as to actually reach out to their fans, not just making appearances on South Korean talk shows, but also filming hundreds of vlogs, some of them containing such personal moments as graduation and other less significant everyday moments? They've essentially shown us the man behind the curtain, Wizard of Oz style. They've made the critical mistake of letting their fans know they're actual, real people, and not robots or Madame Tussauds wax statues.
So know that we know what the heck a BTS is, we have to wonder why? They're clearly making significant mistakes in their marketing strategy, actually acting like their career depends on their fans, and like maybe they actually feel incredibly grateful for their fan's support and love. Now that's deplorable!
