It's Not Baby Killing If It Makes Me Feel Good
Ah, the fight for social justice. It's never an easy one, is it? We brave warriors must always be combatting people who bring up old fashioned ideas like not just letting anyone into the country, not inciting violence, and oh! The kind of people who want to impeach a woman's God-given right to murder a child up to term.
However, we have reached a turning point on that last example of country hick foolery. In New York, Andrew Cuomo & Co. (Hold your applause. I know it's not easy, but there's more!) have passed a new law. That's right everybody, the Reproductive Health Care Act now guarantees your right to abort a child up to term for any reason at all! Cue the applause.
Now, I know there are probably still some concerns about the wording of this bill. I mean, any reason? Are we really so blessed as to be able to abort a child for any reason at all up to the day of birth? Well, my friend, worry no longer. We really are.
The new law guarantees the right to an abortion up to the day of birth for the mother's life, but also her health. In the past, New York law only allowed abortion if the mother's life was threatened. Now, however, the law has broadened to describe health as including not just physiological, but psychological and emotional health as well. This is, of course, a victory for pro-choice fighters everywhere. Can you imagine?
Of course, there will always be the protests of the icky Right, such as this post by Twitter user @conservmillen:
I mean...is it true? Technically, yes. But did we need to hear it? ....Anyway, conservative pundits will always be mad in the face of progress.
The other thing the Right will do to confuse you is telling you the truth. I know it seems counterintuitive, but wait until I tell you the truth about the truth. Then everything will make sense!
Now, listen, is this true? Of course not! I can think of at least one very specific, super detailed, anecdotal case where this was not, in fact, what happened. Maybe even two, if you gave me a couple of hours to scroll through Twitter!
Alas, such is the way of the world. No one believes in the need for late-term abortions, and they all suggest crazy things like c-sections. Everyone knows those can't be performed with the safety of the mother ensured! We've known that since like, 1830!
But it gets better, everyone. Now, you don't even have to be a doctor to perform an abortion. You can have anyone with some medical experience do it for you, which I think is just swell. They won't even be counted as a criminal since abortion is no longer filed under C for criminal code in New York law. I'm so glad we got rid of these wacky, outdated notions that only doctors should be able to perform surgery and that we shouldn't be murdering our children in cold blood.
Folks these days think you shouldn't be able to crush the skull of a fully developed 9-month-old baby, and honestly, I think that's just deplorable.

I’m a Board Certified OB/GYN who has delivered over 2,500 babies.
There’s not a single fetal or maternal condition that requires third trimester abortion. Not one. Delivery, yes. Abortion, no.
